The announcement was made at the Vietnam-Sri Lanka Trade, Investment and Tourism Cooperation Forum held in Colombo on Friday, during Party General Secretary and State President To Lam's May 7-8 state visit to Sri Lanka.
The Vietnamese low-cost carrier will operate four round-trip flights per week on the new route, starting August this year.
According to Vietjet, the service represents a new step in the airline’s international expansion strategy while helping strengthen trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Through Vietjet’s extensive international network, Colombo will gain convenient connections to major destinations across the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Dinh Viet Phuong, first vice-chairman at Vietjet, said the route would not only create a new aviation link but also support broader cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchange between South Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Colombo, a key economic hub in the Indian Ocean region, and Ho Chi Minh City, one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic metropolises, are expected to form a new bridge for regional growth and collaboration.
