The Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC) reported that the market had more than 13.65 million securities trading accounts as of July 31, an increase of 227,536 accounts from June 30.

The number of newly opened accounts in July fell about 15 percent from June and marked the lowest monthly increase in the past five months.

Domestic individual investors opened more than 226,900 new accounts in July, bringing their total to 13.58 million accounts.

Domestic institutional investors added 176 accounts, raising their total to 20,124.

Foreign investors held a combined 52,406 trading accounts at the end of July, up 236 accounts from the end of June.

Foreign individual investors added 205 accounts, while foreign institutional investors added 31 accounts.

Vietnam recorded nearly 1.78 million new securities trading accounts in the first seven months of 2026, bringing the total number of trading accounts to more than 13.65 million by the end of July.

The market added an average of about 255,000 new accounts per month during the January-July period.

The account growth occurred during a volatile month for Vietnam's stock market.

SSI Securities reported that the VN-Index fell 6.7 percent in July, while market liquidity remained weak and investor sentiment stayed cautious.

The VN-Index closed July at 1,735.8 points, down 6.7 percent from the end of June.

The decline reflected legal concerns involving several listed companies, persistently high interest rates, and uncertainty in international markets.

The benchmark index recovered about four percent from its intramonth low before the end of July.

Average daily trading value stood at about VND19.3 trillion (US$736 million) in July.

The July figure was significantly lower than the average of around VND28 trillion ($1.07 billion) per session recorded during the first seven months of 2026.

SSI Securities said August has been a positive month for Vietnam's stock market, with the VN-Index rising in eight of the past 10 years.

The brokerage said market valuations had become more attractive after the recent correction and that margin-related selling pressure could gradually ease.

SSI said the market's medium-term trend remained largely unchanged, with interest rates expected to stay elevated in the second half of 2026, weighing on capital flows and investor sentiment.
