Vietnam Airlines officially announced the resumption of its direct flights between Hanoi and Moscow during Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Russia, marking a new step in expanding Vietnam-Russia relations.

The announcement ceremony was held in Moscow last Friday (local time), attended by the Vietnamese Party chief and senior leaders of both countries.

The event reflects growing momentum in Vietnam-Russia cooperation, especially in trade, investment, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Vietnam Airlines had already relaunched the route on Thursday last week with commercial flight VN63, which departed Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi at 9:45 am and landed safely at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport at 3:40 pm local time.

The flight carried 254 passengers and reached full capacity, marking an encouraging signal of demand for direct air connectivity between the two capitals.

The return flight, VN62, departed Moscow on Saturday morning and brought back 86 Vietnamese officers and soldiers, who had participated in the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of Russia’s Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1945–2025) held at Red Square on Friday morning local time.

According to the national flag carrier, the Vietnamese delegation’s participation demonstrated the deep historical ties between the two nations and symbolized Vietnam’s proud presence at a significant international event.

To maximize the route’s potential and boost two-way tourism, Vietnam Airlines will sign a memorandum of understanding with four major Russian travel and hospitality partners, including Amparus Tour, Mosturflot, AZIMUT Hotels, and the Union of Fairs and Congress.

The signing was part of the Vietnam-Russia Business Forum co-hosted by Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance and Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development on Sunday in Moscow.

Vietnam Airlines is currently operating two weekly flights on the Hanoi-Moscow route on Tuesdays and Thursdays, using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

Each leg of the journey takes approximately nine hours.

The airline plans to increase the frequency to three flights per week beginning in July 2026 to accommodate growing demand.
