The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) on Monday launched a 180-day acceleration campaign to complete and put Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai City, southern Vietnam into operation in December 2026.

The state-owned airport operator also set a target of conducting three trial operations in September, October, and November before the airport officially begins commercial operations.

Speaking at the campaign launch ceremony, ACV acting general director Nguyen Duc Hung said completing and bringing Long Thanh airport into service in 2026 would be of special significance to the development of Vietnam’s aviation sector and the national economy.

According to Hung, several key components have been completed and the project is now entering its final and most challenging stage.

“This is the most difficult phase, requiring a high degree of precision, synchronization, responsibility, and determination,” he said.

Vu Pham Nguyen An, director of the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board, said the project is nearly 76 percent complete.

The first runway and aircraft apron have already been completed and successfully received the airport’s first test flight on the final day of 2025.

“In the latest reporting period, construction output value increased by 3.76 percentage points and the disbursement rate rose by 1.44 percentage points compared to the previous week,” An said.

“These figures show that project progress has improved after payment-related bottlenecks were resolved.”

He added that several major components have achieved high completion rates, including the aircraft apron in the passenger terminal area at more than 88 percent, the fuel supply system at over 92 percent, and connecting transport infrastructure at nearly 90 percent.

The main structural works of the passenger terminal, considered the centerpiece of Long Thanh airport, has been completed and has moved into the architectural finishing and equipment installation phase.

About two-thirds of the terminal’s total workload have been completed.

According to the project management board, the most difficult and complex tasks have largely been overcome.

The project is now entering its final stretch, with stricter requirements for progress, coordination, and construction quality.

An said that during the 180-day campaign, the project management board would focus on several key tasks, including urgently increasing manpower and equipment, expanding the workforce to more than 9,000 workers, and organizing round-the-clock construction across the entire construction site.

Long Thanh International Airport is a national key project spanning about 5,000 hectares, with a total estimated investment of more than VND336.63 trillion (US$13 billion).

Construction began in 2020, and the airport is being developed in three phases, making it the country’s largest aviation infrastructure undertaking to date.

Once fully completed, the airport will have a total capacity of up to 100 million passengers and five million metric tons of cargo per year,
