Vietnam announces winner of American-style jackpot of $10.8mn

Vietnam’s state-run lottery company Vietlott announced on Saturday the winner of the American-style Power 6/55 jackpot, which is worth nearly VND257 billion (US$10.8 million), the second highest-ever jackpot prize in Vietnam.

The winner is a Mobifone mobile network user, who owns the fortunate ticket bearing the series 13-24-39-43-45-52.

The winner will receive more than VND231 billion ($9.7 million) after paying VND25.9 billion ($1.1 million) in personal income tax in accordance with regulations.

Vietlott has earned some VND33 trillion ($1.4 billion) in revenue and paid over VND18 trillion ($757.7 million) to winners over seven years of operation, Pham Ngoc Tu, deputy general director of the company, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

There have been 402 winners of jackpot prizes with the highest-ever prize of about VND303 billion ($12.8 million) given to a man in Hanoi in 2018.

Besides nearly 6,000 ticket selling points in all 63 localities, Vietlott has offered tickets via the Vietlott SMS app.

After only two years, the app has seen nearly one million users in Vietnam.
