Rem Offshore announced that REM Ocean, an energy construction support vessel designed for offshore energy operations, has been handed over by Song Cam Shipyard in Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam.
The vessel departed Vietnam on June 17 and is being towed through Singapore before continuing its journey to Norway, where final outfitting work will be completed at Myklebust Verft shipyard.
Scheduled for completion in 2027, REM Ocean will begin an eight-year contract with DeepOcean, providing inspection, maintenance, and repair services for subsea infrastructure operated by Equinor, Norway’s largest energy company.
Measuring 111.7 meters in length, REM Ocean was developed through cooperation among DeepOcean, Rem Offshore, Skipsteknisk, and other key suppliers.
The vessel will also feature an autonomous inspection drone, designed to support the digitalization of subsea asset inspection operations.
“The work has been completed to a very high shipbuilding standard,” said Kristian Stavset, project manager at Rem Offshore.
He added that REM Ocean is among the highest-quality hulls ever delivered to Norway’s Sunnmøre maritime cluster.
In terms of equipment, REM Ocean will feature a Brunvoll propulsion package, a 250-tonne electric crane, two work-class remotely operated vehicles for subsea operations, a 1,000-square-meter open deck area, a 350-square-meter indoor storage area, and accommodation for up to 120 people.
REM Ocean forms part of Rem Offshore’s next-generation fleet development strategy. The vessel is designed to meet demanding offshore operational requirements while incorporating technologies aimed at improving sustainability and operational efficiency.
According to Rem Offshore, REM Ocean is the second energy construction support vessel ordered from Vietnam.
The first vessel, REM Pioneer, was launched around July 2025.
Photos and videos released by Rem Offshore and DeepOcean show both REM Ocean and REM Pioneer being launched at Song Cam Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company’s shipyard in Hai Phong.
