BAF Vietnam Agriculture Joint Stock Company and China’s Muyuan Foods Co., Ltd., a global leader in livestock farming, have signed a joint venture agreement to build Vietnam’s first high-rise pig farm in Tay Ninh Province.

The signing ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday with Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien in attendance.

With an investment of over VND12 trillion (US$454.3 million), the project will comprise a cluster of multi-story pig-farming facilities and a feed production plant.

According to designs, the hi-tech farm will house about 64,000 sows and produce 1.6 million pigs annually, while the feed mill will supply 600,000 metric tons per year.

Bui Huong Giang, CEO of Ho Chi Minh City-based BAF Vietnam, said the project could generate up to VND10 trillion ($378.7 million) in annual revenue once operational.

Construction is scheduled to start in early 2026 and finish in the first quarter of 2028.

She added that by partnering with Muyuan, the world's largest pig-breeding company renowned for its multi-story swine production system, BAF aims to expand its production capacity to 10 million commercial pigs by 2030.

Field studies at Chinese farms have shown that the high-rise model can boost productivity, increase land-use efficiency by five to eight times, and reduce labor requirements by 20–30 percent compared to conventional farms.

This system, the first of its kind in Vietnam, will feature smart management, automated operations, and stringent biosecurity measures.

Each floor of the high-rise farm will have independent ventilation, filtration, and disinfection systems to limit cross-disease transmission and reduce environmental impacts.

A Muyuan representative said the model would also lower feed and logistics costs, helping keep pork affordable for consumers.

Deputy Minister Tien affirmed that the government supports the adoption of high-rise pig farming to significantly raise supply, while stressing the need to address technical and environmental issues.

He urged ministries to develop supportive policies since Vietnam has already issued standards and regulations for this new form of high-tech farming.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam imported 534,800 metric tons of meat and meat products worth more than $1 billion in the first seven months of 2025, up 11 percent year on year.

Analysts say if high-rise pig farming proves effective, it could help reduce reliance on imports, strengthen food security, and even create a surplus for export.

Beyond BAF, major players such as Xuan Thien, GreenFeed Vietnam, and Dabaco Vietnam have also shown interest in multi-story farms.
