The Lion Championship 29 delivered a night of high-octane mixed martial arts (MMA) as Vietnamese and Chinese fighters went head-to-head in Hanoi on Saturday, with the marquee MMA Duo bout ending in an electrifying draw.

The event concluded late on Saturday at Dong Anh Sports Complex, featuring nine bouts.

Notably, the Chinese fighters were held to draws or defeats in the team-based contests, underscoring the competitiveness and growing stature of Vietnamese MMA.

The centerpiece of the night was the MMA Duo clash between Vietnam’s Nguyen Xuan Phuong and Nguyen Ngoc Thuc and China’s Liu Long Quan and Li Tian Tao.

Over 10 relentless minutes, the four fighters produced non-stop action in a perfectly matched contest.

There was no pause in the exchanges, no quick knockout – only sustained pressure, grit, and technical balance from both sides.

Spectators remained glued to their seats as Phuong engaged Liu in fierce stand-up exchanges, while Thuc displayed remarkable resilience to neutralize Li.

The bout unfolded with intensity and discipline, culminating in a finish few could have predicted.

All four fighters went the distance, each raising an arm in confidence when the final bell sounded.

The judges’ verdict – a draw – brought the dramatic evening to a fitting close.

The MMA Trio contest between the Vietnamese team and the Chinese team delivered another unpredictable battle.

Phan Huy Hoang proved decisive in team competition, capitalizing on a mistake by Zhao Chen Kai as he attempted to rescue teammate Shang Suai Nan.

Hoang secured a choke on Zhao, while Tran Viet Anh executed a back take against Shang, creating the turning point of the match.

Before Yin Lian Bo was eliminated, he had been locked in a tense struggle with Le Minh Hoang.

The victory ultimately went to the Vietnamese team, marking Vietnam’s standout triumph over China on the night.
