Vietnam exports 1st commercial chip shipment to Japan

The shipment was announced on Tuesday by FPT Corporation, which said it had delivered its first batch of power management chips to a leading Japanese electronics company through Restar, one of Japan’s major distributors of electronic components.

According to FPT, the exported chips are specifically designed for high-performance multi-function printers used in enterprise environments.

The chips play a critical role in managing and stabilizing internal power supplies, protecting components from voltage and current fluctuations, and ensuring stable operation under high-load conditions.

The shipment represents an initial step in FPT’s broader strategy to export Vietnamese-designed chips to the Asia-Pacific region.

It also follows a cooperation agreement previously signed between FPT and Restar, witnessed by leaders from both the Vietnamese and Japanese governments.

Under the agreement, Restar aims to distribute up to 10 million chips designed and manufactured by FPT over the next three years in the Asia-Pacific market.

Following the first delivery, FPT and Restar will continue rolling out subsequent chip shipments to fulfill the contract, while jointly developing new semiconductor products tailored to the specific needs of the Japanese market.

These include next-generation power management chips, control chips, and integrated circuits used in office equipment, imaging devices, and consumer electronics.

Tran Dang Hoa, chairman of FPT IS and chairman of FPT Semiconductor, said, “Delivering the first commercial chip shipment to Japan is a significant milestone not only for FPT but also for Vietnam’s technology industry.

“We believe this marks the beginning of a long-term journey in which Vietnamese-designed chips will increasingly appear in consumer electronics, office equipment, IoT devices, and industrial applications worldwide.”
