The ministry on Wednesday proposed a plan to extend the holiday to four consecutive days by rearranging working days, allowing civil servants, public employees, and workers to enjoy a longer break.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra on Thursday agreed to the plan granting civil servants and public employees four days off from Thursday, January 1 through Sunday, January 4.
To compensate, the working day on Friday, January 2 will be made up on Saturday, January 10.
For workers in the private sector, employers are encouraged to apply the same holiday schedule as that for civil servants and public employees.
The deputy prime minister emphasized that all statutory labor benefits must be fully observed, encouraging employers and employees to reach arrangements that are more favorable to workers where possible.
The Ministry of Home Affairs was tasked with notifying administrative agencies, public service units, political and socio-political organizations, as well as businesses and employees nationwide.
State agencies and units were required to arrange duty rosters and work schedules to ensure uninterrupted operations and continuous public services during the holiday period.
Relevant ministries, agencies, and local authorities were instructed to develop appropriate plans and measures to encourage organizations, enterprises, and individuals to actively and proactively promote production, business activities, and broader socio-economic development.
The government leadership also stressed the need to ensure a stable supply of goods and services, maintain price stability and market balance, contribute to economic growth, and combat wastefulness before, during, and after the 2026 New Year holiday.
