Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia PMs hold working breakfast at ASEAN summit

Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung held a working breakfast with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Cebu, the Philippines on Friday on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit, where the three leaders pledged to strengthen trilateral cooperation on security and economic connectivity.

The meeting took place ahead of the official opening of the summit, hosted by the Philippines from Thursday to Friday as ASEAN chair for 2026.

PM Hung, who arrived in Cebu on Thursday, had also held bilateral meetings with several ASEAN leaders, including Hun Manet.

During the breakfast meeting, Hung said Vietnam attached importance to its traditional ties with Laos and Cambodia, pledging to work closely with the two prime ministers to deepen cooperation among the three countries.

Prime Ministers Hun Manet and Sonexay Siphandone congratulated PM Hung on his new role and thanked Vietnam for its support and cooperation with Cambodia and Laos in recent years, while affirming their commitment to maintaining close coordination with Vietnam.

The three leaders welcomed continued cooperation in border management, combating transnational and cybercrime, and maintaining stable trade and investment ties, including Vietnamese business projects in Laos and Cambodia.

They also agreed to maintain high-level exchanges and existing cooperation mechanisms to boost bilateral and trilateral cooperation amid global economic uncertainties affecting the region.

Measures discussed included strengthening economic connectivity, supply chains, transport infrastructure, direct flight links, energy cooperation, logistics, and cross-border trade.

The three prime ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to coordinating and supporting one another at regional and international forums, particularly within ASEAN and Mekong subregional mechanisms.

At the ASEAN Summit, Hung is expected to deliver speeches outlining Vietnam’s foreign policy priorities and proposals to strengthen ASEAN community-building and regional resilience amid global uncertainties, including developments in the Middle East.
