The Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterway Administration said on Friday the port has been approved to handle cargo operations, passenger services, and other maritime activities.
Located in Ly Son, the port is managed by the Quang Ngai Maritime Administration.
Under the decision, the port can accommodate general cargo vessels of up to 2,000 tonnes at its offshore berth, vessels of up to 1,000 tonnes closer to shore, and passenger vessels of about 400 tonnes.

The authority assigned the Quang Ngai Maritime Administration to oversee state management at the port and regulate vessel movements to ensure maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
The Quang Ngai transport infrastructure project management board is responsible for operating the port in line with regulations.
Relevant state agencies will coordinate to manage activities at the port under their respective mandates.
The opening of Ben Dinh port allows vessels to enter and leave the facility for cargo handling and passenger transport, including international traffic.
