Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc spoke with Donald Trump via phone on Wednesday, an opportunity for the Vietnamese premier to congratulate the U.S. President-elect on his election victory and discuss the two nations’ relationship, according to the Vietnam Government Portal.
The Vietnamese head of government congratulated Trump on his election win for the 45th President of the U.S., affirming that Vietnam attaches importance to its friendship and cooperation with the U.S.
Replying to the Vietnamese premier, President-elect Trump praised the Southeast Asian nation’s achievements over the years and the positive developments in U.S.-Vietnam bilateral ties.
He expressed his wishes to cooperate with Vietnam and continue to push the two country’s relationship forward.
The two leaders also discussed orientations and measures to accelerate ties in economics, trade, and investment between the U.S. and Vietnam.
On November 9, Trump stunned the world by defeating the heavily favored Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House, ending eight years of Democratic rule, according to Reuters.
The U.S. President-elect, a wealthy real-estate developer and former reality TV host, collected well over the 270 electoral votes needed to win a four-year term beginning Jan 20, 2017.
