The conference, themed ‘Driving the Development of National Digital Infrastructure – IPv6-Only,’ attracted nearly 400 policymakers, business leaders, and Internet experts from Vietnam and abroad.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Duc Long said IPv6 was a key foundation for building a more scalable, efficient, and secure Internet infrastructure capable of supporting future technological development.

Vietnam’s IPv6 usage rate has reached 67.68 percent, about 1.6 times the global average, placing the country among the world’s leading adopters of the technology.

Around 95 million broadband Internet subscriptions, including mobile and fixed-line connections, are operating on IPv6, while 86 percent of ministries, government agencies, and local authorities have completed IPv6 migration for their online portals and public service platforms.

Officials said Vietnam’s large-scale deployment has helped the country build technical expertise and policy experience while strengthening coordination among government agencies, businesses, and the Internet community.

IPv6 was developed to replace IPv4, whose address pool has been exhausted, and provides a vastly larger number of Internet addresses to support the growing number of connected devices.

The technology is considered essential for next-generation digital infrastructure, including 5G and future 6G networks, as well as Internet of Things applications that require unique network addresses for billions of connected devices.
