Vietnam ranks third at 2025 Asian Canoe Sprint Championships

The Vietnamese canoeing team won one gold medal, four silvers, and one bronze, ranking third overall at the 2025 Asian Canoe Sprint Championships, which took place in China from May 5 to 10.

The valuable gold medal came from the C4 mixed event. The Vietnamese canoeing team outperformed strong opponents from China and Kazakhstan to secure the victory.

The four athletes who earned this gold medal were Pham Hong Quan, Bui Thi Yen, Ma Thi Thuy, and Hien Nam.

In the women’s C2 1,000m event, the duo Nguyen Thi Huong and Nguyen Hong Thai competed resiliently.

In the end, they finished second behind China and won the silver medal, ahead of North Korea.

Meanwhile, in the women’s C1 500m event, paddler Diep Thi Huong shone with a silver medal, finishing behind the Chinese athlete and ahead of Kazakhstan.

The third silver medal was earned by Diep Thi Huong and Nguyen Thi Huong in the women’s C2 500m event.

The fourth silver came in the C1 500m event, secured by paddler Nguyen Hong Thai.

Vietnam's only bronze medal at the tournament was claimed by Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong in the women’s C2 200m event.

This year’s impressive results are seen as an important stepping stone for the team as they aim for larger competitions such as the Asian Games, also known as Asiad, and the Olympics in the future.
