Vietnam records sharp decline in holiday traffic accidents

Vietnam’s Traffic Police Department reported that 177 traffic accidents nationwide over the April 30-May 3 holiday killed 95 people and injured 114, down 72 crashes, 35 deaths, and 65 injuries year on year.

Most accidents occurred on roads, while railways saw one fatal incident and inland waterways reported none during the four-day holiday marking Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1).

Traffic police nationwide handled more than 53,900 violations, temporarily seizing 277 cars, over 13,000 motorbikes, and nearly 1,050 other vehicles.

Authorities also revoked 1,479 driver’s licenses and deducted points in over 7,950 cases.

Of the violations, more than 11,400 were related to drunk driving, 13,390 involved speeding, and over 390 were cases of overcrowding.

Expressway patrol units detected more than 1,600 violations, while police recorded nearly 800 on waterways and over 360 on railways.
