Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged Algeria to supply crude oil and natural gas to help ensure Vietnam’s energy security amid global supply disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict.

He made the request during a phone call on Wednesday with his Algerian counterpart Sifi Ghrieb, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Chinh voiced concern over the Middle East conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran, which erupted on February 28.

He warned of its serious impact on the global economy and energy security in many countries, including Vietnam.

Against this backdrop, he called on Algeria to support Vietnam by supplying crude oil and natural gas, and to coordinate on implementing cooperation agreements between PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation and Algeria’s national oil company Sonatrach.

Besides energy cooperation, Chinh urged both sides to promptly follow through on existing commitments and soon finalize an action plan for the strategic partnership framework established during his visit to Algeria in November 2025.

He also identified priority areas for cooperation, including investment, oil and gas exploration and refining, trade promotion, defense, renewable energy, science and technology, digital transformation, and growing Vietnamese crops in Algeria.

Chinh extended greetings from Party General Secretary To Lam and other Vietnamese leaders to Algeria’s president, prime minister, and other officials, and invited them to visit Vietnam soon.

For his part, Ghrieb extended greetings from his president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Vietnam’s top leaders.

He affirmed that, building on the long-standing ties between the two countries, Algeria would step up its support for Vietnam’s energy security.

The Algerian leader also reaffirmed his commitment to implementing key areas of bilateral cooperation, particularly in investment, trade, agriculture, energy, and culture.

He noted the shared values of peace, solidarity, equality, and development, praising Vietnam’s approach to conflicts in the Middle East and other regions.

He added that Algeria stands ready to work with Vietnam in calling for ceasefires, de-escalation, and peaceful solutions to global conflicts.
