Vietnam sees sharp drop in traffic accidents during 5-day National Day holiday

The department released the figures on September 2, covering the holiday period from August 29 to September 2.

Compared with the same five-day period in 2025, the number of accidents fell by 68, or 26.15 percent, while fatalities and injuries dropped by 54 and 26, equivalent to 36.73 percent and 16.25 percent, respectively.

All of the accidents occurred on roads, with no traffic accidents reported on railways or waterways.

On September 2 alone, 29 traffic accidents were reported nationwide, leaving 13 people dead and 21 injured.

Compared with the same day last year, the number of accidents fell by 34, or 53.97 percent, while deaths and injuries decreased by 23 and 17, or 63.89 percent and 44.74 percent, respectively.

During the five-day holiday, traffic police detected more than 97,600 violations, revoked 1,540 driver's licenses and professional certificates, and deducted points from some 9,300 driver's licenses.

Authorities also impounded around 15,170 vehicles.

On roads, police recorded about 11,600 violations involving alcohol concentrations, 17,100 speeding violations, 388 cases of overloaded vehicles, and 658 cases of vehicles carrying more passengers than permitted.

Traffic police units operating on expressways issued tickets for 701 violations.

They also recorded 11 tailgating violations on expressways.

On September 2, as traffic heading back to major cities increased, traffic police deployed traffic diversion and regulation measures, focusing on expressways, gateways to urban areas and other locations at risk of congestion.
