On Thursday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh spoke with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong from Hanoi to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional developments.
The conversation followed their meeting at the G20 Summit in South Africa last month, underscoring the importance of ongoing consultations and close coordination to address challenges, seize emerging opportunities, and reinforce ASEAN solidarity, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of Vietnam–Singapore relations since the upgrade to a comprehensive strategic partnership and agreed to effectively implement the 2025–30 action program.
They also explored new cooperation mechanisms, including a possible strategic dialogue between the ruling parties of the two countries.
The two leaders emphasized efforts to upgrade the network of Vietnam–Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIPs) to a second generation that is greener, smarter, and more inclusive.
They aim to reach 30 VSIPs by 2030 and replicate the model’s success in other countries in the region.
PM Chinh welcomed ongoing surveys for projects to export wind power from Vietnam to Singapore and proposed potential cooperation on small modular nuclear energy development.
He also encouraged joint initiatives in carbon credit projects and measures to strengthen food security.
Vietnam expressed hope that Singapore would participate in planned international financial centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, support high-quality human resource development, and help advance Vietnam–Singapore relations as a model of unity, cooperation, and dialogue in Southeast Asia.
PM Wong agreed with the proposals and said that amid complex regional developments, Singapore seeks to implement the partnership in practical terms, aiming to serve as a beacon for mutually beneficial cooperation within ASEAN.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working closely when Vietnam hosts APEC and Singapore presides over ASEAN in 2027.
On regional and international issues, they voiced deep concern over recent tensions between Cambodia and Thailand and called for restraint and dialogue to resolve disputes peacefully.
They agreed to cooperate with other ASEAN members to strengthen unity, uphold ASEAN centrality, and use ASEAN mechanisms to foster dialogue, stability, and cooperation across the region.
Vietnam and Singapore established diplomatic ties in 1973, elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2013, and strengthened it to a comprehensive strategic partnership in March 2025.
