During separate meetings with Dmitry Medvedev, chairman of the United Russia Party, and Gennady Zyuganov, chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Trung, who is also a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Politburo, briefed them on the outcomes of the Party’s 14th National Congress.
He conveyed the appreciation of the Party Central Committee and General Secretary To Lam for congratulatory messages from Russian leaders following the congress and Lam’s re-election as party chief.
Trung described the congress as a milestone event that comprehensively reviewed four decades of Doi Moi (Renovation) and distilled lessons from Vietnam’s development experience.
He said the congress outlined priorities including restructuring the growth model through science, technology, and digital transformation, while ensuring alignment between economic progress, socio-cultural development, and environmental protection.
For the first time, foreign affairs was formally elevated as a core and ongoing strategic task alongside national defense and security, he added.
The special envoy reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to its comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia and values its long-standing ties with both major Russian political parties.
He proposed expanding cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and its Russian counterparts to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Medvedev and Zyuganov once again congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 14th National Party Congress and on the Party Central Committee’s re-election of General Secretary Lam and election of the new Party leadership.
They praised Vietnam’s development achievements and expressed confidence in its continued progress.
Medvedev described Vietnam as a trusted and important partner of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region, saying the country’s achievements reflected the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He expressed readiness to expand cooperation in areas including nuclear energy, defense and security, science and technology, culture, and education.
He also emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-party ties and implementing existing cooperation agreements, including advancing a new cooperation plan for 2026-28 between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the United Russia Party.
Zyuganov also expressed support for strengthening party-to-party coordination, particularly through theoretical exchanges, and backed expanding cooperation through parliamentary channels, local-level engagement, and mass organizations affiliated with the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
The meetings also included exchanges of views on regional and international developments of mutual concern.
On the occasion, Trung conveyed invitations from General Secretary Lam and the Party Central Committee to Medvedev and Zyuganov to visit Vietnam at a mutually convenient time, which both leaders accepted.
