In a remarkable display of talent and dominance, three young Vietnamese chess players bagged gold, silver, and bronze medals in the U14 category at the FIDE World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2025 in Greece.

The trio are Nguyen Nam Kiet, Dau Khuong Duy, and Duong Vu Anh.

Kiet emerged as the tournament champion on Tuesday evening (Vietnam time), securing the gold medal after 11 rounds of Swiss-system competition.

His path to victory included a pivotal win over fellow Vietnamese competitor Duy in the sixth round.

Duy ultimately secured the silver medal, while Anh rounded out the all-Vietnamese podium with a bronze.

This was not the first time Kiet and Duy had faced off at an international event.

In 2023, the roles were reversed at the World Cadet U8, U10, U12 Championships 2023, with Duy striking gold and Kiet finishing second in the Boys' U12 category.

Beyond the U14 category, the Vietnamese delegation enjoyed further success across various age groups, with Nguyen Bao Nam claiming silver in the Boys' U8 category.

Hoang Tan Vinh took bronze in the Boys’ U10 category, while Nguyen Thanh Huong secured the silver medal in the Girls' U12 category.

Besides, Tran Hoang Bao An won bronze in the Girls' U10 event, and Nguyen Binh Vy earned bronze in the Girls' U18 category.

The FIDE World Youth U14, U16, U18 Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2025 kicked off on April 13, attracting more than 430 players, including 64 titled participants from 48 countries.

The tournament format included three days of rapid chess, followed by two days of the blitz portion.
