The Ministry of Construction said Sun Airport Corporation will take over management and operation of the airport, ending ACV's role after more than six years.
The ministry revoked ACV's operating license at the airport at the company's request and issued a new license to Sun Airport Corporation, it said.
Sun Airport Corporation will be responsible for airport safety, security and maintenance and will operate under the supervision of aviation authorities, according to the decision.
The handover follows a move by Kien Giang Province earlier this year to appoint the Sun Group unit as the investor in a large-scale expansion of the airport, aimed at raising capacity to 20 million passengers a year.
The expansion is part of Vietnam's preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which Phu Quoc is due to host in 2027.
In November, provincial authorities and aviation agencies agreed on a plan to transfer existing airport infrastructure, including runways and navigation systems, to the Sun Group unit, officials said, adding the transition would not disrupt operations.
