This marks the first time in history that Vietnam will host a 10-ball world championship, making it only the third country to do so, after the Philippines and the United States. Both countries are recognized as global powerhouses in billiards.
Vietnam is expected to become a major hub for international cue sports in 2025 by hosting a trio of world-class tournaments: the WPA Men's 10-Ball World Championship, the Poison Cues Saigon Women's 9-Ball Open, and the Box Billiards Mixed Doubles Open.
These events will be co-organized by Box Billiards, Predator, and the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards and Snooker Federation.
The official opening ceremony for the Men's 10-Ball World Championship will be held on the evening of September 19.
Matches in the final stage will begin on September 20 and conclude on September 28.
The combined prize pool for the series totals US$425,000, with $250,000 allocated to the Men's 10-Ball World Championship alone.
The champion will take home $70,000, the runner-up will receive $40,000, and each semifinalist will earn $17,500.
The tournament will feature 96 of the world's top cueists, including defending champion Carlo Biado, Fedor Gorst, Joshua Filler, Shane Van Boening, Eklent Kaçi, Ko Pin Yi, and Ko Ping Chung.
Vietnam will be represented in the final stage by Duong Quoc Hoang and Pham Phuong Nam.
Other Vietnamese players will have the opportunity to qualify through preliminary rounds.
The tournament will begin with a double-elimination format, where players compete in both winners' and losers' brackets to determine the top 32.
From that stage forward, the event will shift to a single-elimination format to crown the world champion.
