Vietnam to launch 20 luxury carriages on Hanoi-Hai Phong railway this week

These new carriages will operate on trains HP1/HP2, LP5/LP6, LP2/LP3, and LP7/LP8. 

The exterior features a dominant red color inspired by the flamboyant flower -- an iconic symbol of the port city of Hai Phong.

Inside, the carriages offer a luxurious space that artfully blends contemporary design with the region’s rich cultural heritage.

2 premium carriages with distinctive features

Among the new additions are two standout models: a 34-seat VIP carriage and a 56-seat first-class carriage with rotating seats.

The VIP carriage adopts an Indochine design style, combining modern lines with traditional East Asian color tones to create an elegant and refined atmosphere.

Notably, it features natural wood flooring, onboard Wi-Fi, a complimentary beverage bar, and live musical performances throughout the journey.

The 56-seat carriage is equipped with seats that can rotate 180 degrees, allowing passengers to comfortably adjust their seating direction and avoid the discomfort of facing away from the train’s direction of travel.

All new carriages also come equipped with semi-automatic doors, digital displays for train location and speed, spacious hand-washing areas, modern restrooms, vinyl flooring, and plastic wall panels with a marble pattern in a sophisticated color scheme.

Fare structure, promotional discount

Ticket prices vary depending on the day of the week.

34-seat VIP carriage: VND250,000 (US$9,63) on weekdays and VND300,000 ($11,57) on weekends (Friday through Sunday). Passengers enjoy complimentary beverages of their choice during the ride.

56-seat first-class carriage: VND150,000 ($5,78) on weekdays and VND180,000 ($6,94) on weekends, including one bottle of water.

64-seat standard carriage: VND105,000 ($4,04) at the beginning of the week and VND130,000 ($5,02) toward the weekend.

To celebrate the launch, Vietnam Railways will offer a 10-percent fare discount on all Hanoi-Hai Phong trains from May 10 to May 18.
