Vietnam’s tourism industry is set to welcome its 20 millionth international visitor, scheduled to arrive in Phu Quoc Special Zone, an island administered by southern An Giang Province in mid-December, marking the first time the country will receive 20 million foreign travelers in a single year.

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism recently said Phu Quoc International Airport will host a special celebration to honor the occasion.

Accordingly, three travelers — the 19,999,999th, 20,000,000th, and 20,000,001st visitors — will be presented with culturally themed gifts reflecting both the island’s heritage and Vietnam’s renowned hospitality.

This landmark achievement highlights the first time that Vietnam’s tourism industry, over its 65 years of development, will welcome 20 million international visitors in a single year.

As a newly designated special zone of An Giang following a national administrative restructuring effective July 1, Phu Quoc has quickly emerged as a key gateway for international travel and regional connectivity within ASEAN.

The island’s rich natural landscape, encompassing diverse marine, island, and forest ecosystems, along with notable cultural and historical sites, supports the development of sustainable and diversified tourism offerings.

A series of infrastructure investments — notably the international airport, the An Thoi marina, and expanded ground transport links — have further enhanced Phu Quoc’s global appeal.

Improvements in visa policies, expansion of source markets, intensified promotion, and enhancements in service quality have all contributed to this success.

Achieving this level of international arrivals reinforces Vietnam’s reputation as a safe and compelling travel destination in both regional and global markets.

The milestone also underscores Vietnam’s unique cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, diverse cuisine, and immersive visitor experiences, all of which continue to attract growing interest from around the world.

This momentum demonstrates strong international confidence in Vietnam as a travel destination and paves the way for the government’s goal of attracting 35 million international arrivals by 2030, further advancing tourism as a key economic driver and boosting the nation’s global profile.

According to the National Statistics Office of Vietnam, nearly 1.98 million foreign tourists visited the country in November, sustaining the sector’s robust performance.

From January through November, Vietnam welcomed 19.15 million international travelers, a year-on-year increase of 20.9 percent, surpassing both the previous record set in 2019 and the government’s target of 18 million arrivals for 2025.
