Vietnam to send 498-member delegation to 20th Asian Games

Vietnam will send a 498-member delegation to the 20th Asian Games (Asiad 20) in Japan, with the country targeting four to six gold medals at the continental sporting event.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved the establishment of the Vietnamese sports delegation for Asiad 20, which will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

Nguyen Hong Minh, deputy head of the Sports Authority of Vietnam, will lead the delegation, while Hoang Quoc Vinh, head of the authority’s high-performance sports division, will serve as deputy head.

Of the 498 members, 343 will have their expenses covered by the Sports Authority of Vietnam, including airfare, excess baggage fees, meals, accommodation, personal expenses, communications, visas, passports and transportation within Japan.

The funding will also cover office rental, training and competition facilities, vehicles, equipment and gear, insurance, fees and other expenses incurred in accordance with regulations.

The authority will additionally cover the cost of medicines and medical supplies, official uniforms, stationery, flags, gifts and badges for the 343 members.

The remaining 155 members will have their expenses covered by local authorities, sports federations and national sports associations.

The Vietnamese delegation will include 348 athletes competing in athletics, swimming, weightlifting, shooting, rowing, canoeing, sepak takraw, karate, gymnastics, taekwondo, archery, boxing, wrestling, cycling, wushu, kurash, jujitsu, men's indoor volleyball, women's indoor volleyball, men's beach volleyball, women's beach volleyball, men's football, women's football, judo, golf, handball, badminton, fencing, sailing, teqball, esports, breaking and mixed martial arts.
