Vietnam to witness 2025’s most spectacular Beaver Moon on November 6

Vietnamese skies will host one of the year’s most stunning natural displays on Thursday evening when the Beaver Moon – the largest full moon of 2025 – rises, promising a striking sight for stargazers across the Southeast Asian country, astronomers say.

The supermoon will reach its peak fullness at 8:19 pm on Wednesday (Vietnam time), but the best viewing is expected on Thursday evening (November 6), when it rises along the eastern horizon, casting a vivid golden-orange glow against the twilight sky.

Thanks to the horizon illusion, it will appear larger and reddish-orange near the ground, creating a breathtaking scene, particularly from open areas such as lakesides, hilltops, or beaches.

Weather permitting, astronomy enthusiasts in Vietnam can expect the clearest view between 6:30 and 7:30 pm on Thursday.

During this time, the moon will appear in the Taurus constellation near the Pleiades star cluster, forming a prominent and easily recognizable pair in the night sky.

A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with its closest approach to the earth, causing sunlight to reflect more brightly off the lunar surface and creating a striking visual effect.

Data from AstroPixels shows the Beaver Moon will be just 356,980 kilometers from the earth, its closest approach since February 2019.

At this perigee, the full moon can appear up to 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than at its farthest point, or apogee, making it noticeably more striking than other full moons this year.

Beyond its astronomical appeal, the Beaver Moon offers a moment to pause amid life’s hectic pace and reconnect with the night sky.

In an age dominated by artificial lights and screens, its radiant glow reminds viewers of the timeless beauty of nature.

The Beaver Moon is the second of three consecutive supermoons in 2025, following October’s Harvest Moon and preceding December’s Cold Moon.

Its name comes from North American indigenous traditions, marking the time when beavers begin building dams in preparation for the freezing winter months.

NASA records also note other folk names for the November full moon, including the Frost Moon, Snow Moon, and Trading Moon, reflecting local customs, climate, and agricultural practices.

After three consecutive supermoons in October, November, and December 2025, the Wolf Moon in early January 2026 will offer another rare celestial spectacle to start the new year.
