The foreign ministry's spokesperson Pham Thu Hang made the statement on Thursday in response to media queries about Vietnam’s reaction to the June 24 ceasefire agreement in the military conflict between the two Middle East nations.
“We call on all parties involved to respect and implement the agreement, creating favorable conditions for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world,” Hang stated.
She reaffirmed Vietnam’s support for efforts to promote dialogue and negotiations on the basis of respect for national sovereignty, in line with international law and the UN Charter, aiming toward a sustainable and lasting peace in the region.
The Israel-Iran conflict erupted on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on targets within Iran, citing the prevention of Iran’s nuclear weapons development as justification.
After 12 days of intense hostilities, Israel and Iran are now observing a ceasefire agreement brokered by the U.S. on Tuesday.
