Vietnam wins gold, ranks fourth at 2026 Al-Fergani International Physics Olympiad

Vietnam ranked fourth overall at the 2026 Al-Fergani International Physics Olympiad (FIPhO), with all four members of its team winning medals, including one gold, two silver and one bronze, the Ministry of Education and Training said on Saturday.

The second edition of the competition took place from October 10 to 17 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Vietnam’s team was selected from 11th-grade students in the 2025-2026 academic year who had competed in the ministry’s selection round for the 2026 International Physics Olympiad.

Le Ba Tuan Viet of the High School for Gifted Students in Science, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, won gold.

The two silver medals went to Truong Ba Chi Thanh, also from the High School for Gifted Students in Science, and Tang Hao Nhien of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted.

Le Hong Nhan of Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa Province won bronze.

The competition brought together 107 contestants from 15 countries and territories. Russia ranked first, followed by China and host country Uzbekistan.

The ministry attributed Vietnam’s results to the students’ determination and hard work, the dedication of teachers in training and academic guidance, and support from families and schools.
