Vietnamese calligraphy exhibition captivates 3 Japanese calligraphers

The exhibition, themed ‘Non non nuoc nuoc’ (Mountains and Rivers), marks the 51st anniversary of the house.

Running until Sunday, the exhibition is showcasing more than 150 works presented on a wide range of materials, including silk, wood, canvas and glass.

Many of the pieces express love for the homeland and country, celebrate Vietnamese traditions, and feature inspirational sayings and words of wisdom.

The exhibition also highlights the cultural value of calligraphy, which is not only regarded as an elegant traditional pastime but also reflects the Vietnamese respect for learning, literature and education.

Nguyen Hong Phuc, director of the house, said this year’s exhibition features exchanges with three Japanese calligraphers, including Chokuho, Namyo and Shunsou.

All three have been involved in calligraphy activities in Ho Chi Minh City for many years.

Their participation is providing an opportunity for cultural exchange and underscoring the enduring appeal of calligraphy in contemporary life.

He expressed hope that exchanges with international calligraphers would expand at future exhibitions, creating more opportunities for Vietnamese calligraphy to connect with calligraphy traditions from around the world.

The exhibition also marks the 20th anniversary of the Calligraphy Club of Ho Chi Minh City Youth Culture House.

The club has become a meeting place for people who share a passion for the art of writing, helping bring calligraphy closer to younger generations.

Throughout the three-day exhibition, visitors can also receive Vietnamese calligraphy works as gifts.

A ‘Calligraphy Writing’ workshop will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday.

In addition, a program featuring a calligraphy discussion and Vietnamese tea tasting will take place on Sunday morning.
