The patient, identified as H.T.N. from Huong Hiep Commune, Quang Tri, was admitted to the hospital with persistent lower abdominal pain and white vaginal discharge, representatives of the center said on Friday.
An examination revealed a large, mobile mass in the lower abdomen. Ultrasound and laboratory tests indicated a cystic tumor with clear boundaries, septations, papillary growths, and calcifications on the left ovary.
Following consultation, doctors determined that the 17x14cm cyst posed a high risk of torsion or rupture and decided to remove it surgically.
The operation was conducted by the hospital's general surgery and obstetrics-gynecology team on Thursday.
The cyst was removed safely with minimal blood loss, and the patient's remaining ovary was preserved.
She is now conscious, in stable condition, and under post-operative monitoring, the hospital said.
A hospital representative said large ovarian cysts can cause serious complications if not detected early and recommended regular check-ups for women of reproductive age to enable timely treatment.
