The VISTC, based at PTIT in Hanoi, was officially launched on Thursday in a joint initiative between the institute and Temix Group as a result of upgrading the Temix mmWave Systems - PTIT Advanced Design Center, which was launched in September 2025.
After a year of groundwork, the center has brought together more than 30 young engineers, master's graduates and PhD holders, who have worked on a range of high-tech products, from satellite communication systems and software-defined communication systems to computer modules and specialized radio equipment for drones, aircraft, and satellites.
The team has also produced dozens of scientific publications and involved graduate students and PhD candidates directly in research and development, according to PTIT.
Armando Caravella, founder and president of Temix Group, an Italian technology company specializing in satellite communications, defense and aerospace, said the new center represents a broader cooperation platform than the design center established a year earlier.
The partnership combines Vietnam's academic capabilities with Temix's industrial expertise, allowing high-tech products to be researched and developed and skilled personnel to be trained in Vietnam, he said.
"For Vietnam, this is technological self-reliance; for Italy, this is a substantive presence in the most dynamic region in the world," Caravella said.
At the launch ceremony, PTIT president Dang Hoai Bac said the new center would serve as a bridge for bringing international-standard experts and solutions to Vietnam.
One of its main goals is to address the shortage of highly qualified personnel in emerging fields such as space technology, aerospace systems, and telecommunications electronics, Bac said.
He underscored that VISTC will operate as an 'open platform,' bringing together scientists from PTIT and Temix as well as talented students, universities, research institutes, and technology companies from Vietnam and abroad to work on challenging projects.
The initiative is also aligned with Vietnam's national strategy for science and technology development and digital transformation, which prioritizes greater self-reliance in satellite research and manufacturing and mastery of modern airborne equipment, he added.
