Vietnamese officer receives presidential order for UN peacekeeping mission

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, on Monday presented the decision to Major Su Tan Phi Long, a political assistant from the Ho Chi Minh City Command, Military Zone 7.

Major Long will serve as a military observer at the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), replacing Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Si Hieu.

In his remarks, Senior Lieutenant General Chien congratulated Major Long and noted that Vietnam’s peacekeeping force has continued to grow both in scale and capacity.

Since joining UN peacekeeping operations in 2014, Vietnam has deployed nearly 1,100 professional officers and soldiers to various missions, both as individuals and as part of units, all of whom have fulfilled their assigned responsibilities.
