Vietnam’s Central Party Committee concluded its eight-day plenary meeting on Monday after completing all the tasks specified in the agenda, including the introduction of candidates for top leadership positions for the next term.
The committee discussed and unanimously approved the list of candidates for the Politburo and Secretariat for the coming five-year term, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
All qualified candidates in terms of age and capability were also up for the election of the four most important posts of the leadership, namely the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Prime Minister, National Assembly Chairman, and State President, for the next tenure.
The Politburo was requested to prepare a list of special candidates, who are members of the Politburo and Secretariat of the current term to run for re-election, to present at the next plenary meeting.
The Central Party Committee also reviewed several documents that will be presented at the next Party Congress, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
In terms of socio-economic development, the documents feature new orientations for developing a socialist-oriented market economy, renewing the growth model and restructuring the national economy.
Other goals included in the documents are accelerating industrialization and modernization; improving the efficiency of social management, social progress and fairness; beefing up natural resource management and environmental protection; and coping with climate change.
The documents also focus on continuing the implementation of the Central Resolution on Party establishment as well as the fight against corruption and wastefulness.
Regarding complicated developments in international and regional situations, the Central Party Committee, Politburo and Secretariat have been assertive in defending national independence and sovereignty, maintaining social and political stability, actively integrating with other countries, and securing a peaceful environment for national development, the Vietnam News Agency quoted Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as saying at the meeting.
The persistent efforts of the Vietnamese Party, people, and army have contributed to many of the country’s significant achievements in the last five years, General Secretary Trong said.
The Party Central Committee also pointed out existing shortcomings and weaknesses and learned from experience to do a better job in the future.
At the end of the plenum, the committee announced that the next Party Congress will take place in Hanoi from January 20 to 28, 2016.
