Vietnamese premier to travel to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead a high-ranking delegation from Vietnam to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit and visit Saudi Arabia from Wednesday to Friday this week, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his three-day visit at the invitation of the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Vietnamese government leader will meet with the Southwest Asian nation’s top officials.

This is his first visit to Saudi Arabia since the prime minister took office in 2021.

His Saudi Arabia trip is aimed at marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is a leading economy in the Middle East, and houses large oil reserves.

Saudi Arabia is one of Vietnam’s top economic partners in the Middle East. Bilateral trade reached US$2.7 billion in 2022, up 32.4 percent year on year.

Potential for cooperation, especially in green energy, remains huge.

As one of the world’s most powerful Islamic countries, Saudi Arabia boasts huge potential for the Halal industry, which is emerging in Vietnam.

Vietnam sees Saudi Arabia one of priority partners in its Halal development project through 2030.

In September, a business delegation of the Chamber of Commerce of Riyadh, the capital and largest city of Saudi Arabia, visited Vietnam to sound out cooperation and investment opportunities in numerous fields such as renewable energy, seaport, Halal food, tourism, and innovations.

PM Chinh’s visit is expected to foster Vietnam - Saudi Arabia relations, and link the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
