Tran Le Thien Nhan, a 12th-grade student from Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted in Hue City, central Vietnam has been named one of five global recipients of the 'STEM for All' award presented by French aerospace group Thales at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2025) held in Paris.

Nhan also secured a silver medal at the competition, joining a five-member Vietnamese team that earned one gold and four silver medals, the Vietnam News Agency cited the Ministry of Education and Training as saying last week.

The team was selected and supported by the ministry.

The 'STEM for All' award is given to students who demonstrate exceptional passion and talent in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) despite financial or social challenges.

Each participating country is allowed to nominate only one candidate.

The selection is based on a video introduction and a recommendation letter from the team leader.

An expert panel from IPhO and Thales selects up to five students globally to receive the honor.

The award includes a €5,000 grant and a year of one-on-one mentorship with Thales technology experts to support career development in STEM fields.

Vietnam's delegation nominated Nhan, whose application impressed judges with both academic achievements and his personal story.

In his submission video, he spoke about his passion for science, his journey in learning, and his aspiration to contribute to a safer, greener, and more inclusive world through technology.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the award not only recognizes individual excellence but also reflects the ambition and potential of Vietnamese students.

It is seen as a key stepping stone for Nhan to access international academic and technological opportunities and pursue a sustainable career in science and engineering.

At the 2025 IPhO, which lasted from July 17 to 25, Nguyen The Quan, a 12th grader from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An Province won the gold medal.

The remaining silver medalists, alongside Nhan, include Ly Ba Khoi and Truong Duc Dung from the High School for Gifted Students of Natural Sciences under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi, and Nguyen Cong Vinh from Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted.
