The event, titled 'Vietnam–Singapore Innovation Talent Exchange Forum,' was jointly organized by the Vietnamese Ministries of Home Affairs and Finance.
It marked a step forward in the implementation of the 2023 memorandum of understanding on innovation talent exchange between the two countries.
The MoU enables short-term job placements in fields tied to innovation, allowing workers from both nations to gain experience abroad.
Eligible positions span data science and analytics, cybersecurity and risk management, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), machine learning (ML), software and mobile development, and semiconductor technology.
Kim Ngoc Thanh Nga, deputy director of the National Innovation Center under the finance ministry, said that Singaporean companies are offering competitive monthly salaries of S$3,000-10,000 (US$2,330-$7,760), depending on qualifications and roles.
In its first year, the program aims to attract about 300 participants. The number is expected to rise to 1,000 annually in each country in the years ahead.
An online platform for job matching and registration is slated for completion by July.
Program participants may either remain in Singapore after their assignment or return to Vietnam to continue their careers.
“Singapore has a strong demand for high-achieving graduates in science, engineering, and information technology. The two governments are committed to offering the best possible support so young professionals can thrive in a modern international environment,” Nga said.
Vietnamese applicants must be 30 or younger to qualify, while those from Singapore must be no older than 35.
All candidates must hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from an approved list of higher education institutions.
In Vietnam, eligible institutions include Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University-Hanoi, and Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City, among others.
In Singapore, applicants must have graduated from one of 13 recognized universities or institutes, such as National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, or Singapore Management University.
The list also includes over 100 internationally recognized universities, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Oxford, California Institute of Technology, Seoul National University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Melbourne, and Tokyo Institute of Technology.
