Vietnamese woodworker builds electric wooden all-terrain vehicle

The vehicle features a steel frame and handcrafted wooden body, drawing attention from vehicle enthusiasts.

The wooden ATV was recently completed by Truong Van Dao, owner of the ND - Woodworking Art YouTube channel in Bac Ninh Province.

Unlike wooden models designed solely for display, the ATV is equipped with a full mechanical system and an electric motor, allowing it to operate on various types of terrain.

According to its creator, the idea came from a desire to combine traditional woodworking craftsmanship with modern mechanical engineering.

The project took several weeks of design, measurements, and material selection to ensure both its appearance and functionality.

Beneath the wooden exterior, the vehicle has a chassis made of welded steel box sections that provides structural support and serves as a mounting platform for the entire drivetrain.

The vehicle is fitted with four large off-road tires with deep treads, along with independent suspension systems on both the front and rear axles. This configuration allows it to handle uneven roads, potholes, and rocky terrain more easily.

It also features handlebar-style steering, a drivetrain, and hydraulic disc brakes similar to those found on commercial ATVs, making it easier for the rider to control the vehicle's steering and speed.

The most striking feature of the project is its wooden exterior. The entire body and decorative details are handcrafted from solid natural wood.

To shape the vehicle, the woodworker cut, carved, sanded, and assembled individual pieces to cover the steel frame underneath.

Details including the body, handlebars, wheel covers, and underbody feature the natural grain of the wood.

Even the seat is made from wood and curved to fit the rider's posture. Numerous simulated details, including an exhaust pipe, air intake vents, and fuel cap, were also crafted to give the vehicle a rugged appearance.

After the body was completed, the entire wooden surface was coated with multiple layers of polyurethane (PU) paint to enhance its gloss, highlight the wood grain, and protect the wood from the effects of weather exposure.

For operation, the vehicle is also equipped with an LCD display showing speed and battery level, as well as front LED headlights, taillights, and decorative light strips along both sides of the body.

After completion, the wooden ATV was taken onto real roads for testing.

Powered by an electric motor, the vehicle runs relatively quietly and has no tailpipe emissions during operation.

According to the test footage, it is capable of carrying an adult and traveling over gentle slopes and sandy or gravelly surfaces.
