Duy scored 9.5 points from 11 games, remaining unbeaten with eight wins and three draws, and tied on points with Poland’s Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov before placing third on tiebreaks.
He defeated six grandmasters during the event, including Caruana and India’s Arjun Erigaisi, who is ranked inside the FIDE top 10.
Against Caruana, Duy, playing black, won after 37 moves in a game where he executed two moves described as top engine choices in post-game analysis.
Duy also finished inside the top 10 in the same weekly event the previous week.
He earned US$350 in prize money for third place.
Titled Tuesday is a weekly 11-round Swiss-system online blitz tournament hosted by Chess.com for titled players, including grandmasters and international masters.
The event regularly features top players such as former world champion Magnus Carlsen and grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura.
Duy has achieved two grandmaster norms and has a rating above 2,500, moving closer to the requirements for the grandmaster title.
