The newly-expanded Lam Dong Province is formed from the consolidation of the former Lam Dong, Binh Thuan and Dak Nong Provinces, starting Tuesday.
Da Lat, now designated as the new Lam Dong’s provincial capital hub, is expected to lead tourism and administrative functions.
Officials said Da Lat will focus on sustainable tourism, innovation and high-end services, aiming to attract international visitors and long-term investment.
“Da Lat is moving beyond being a scenic retreat,” said Tran Thanh Hoai, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
“It is transforming into a creative destination with global appeal.”

Local authorities plan to develop a green tourism ecosystem supported by private investment and state funding.
Initiatives under review include a cultural innovation valley, an integrated resort near Dan Kia Lake, and an international arts center.
Transportation upgrades, including new expressways linking Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring coastal provinces, are expected to boost access.
The existing Lien Khuong and under-construction Phan Thiet airports will also support regional connectivity.
Urban planners said the city will be structured with satellite towns to reduce congestion and protect heritage areas.

The province is also developing a digital tourism platform, including virtual reality tools and mobile booking systems.
Da Lat sits within a tourism corridor connecting Phan Thiet and the Ta Dung geopark.
The new Lam Dong Province aims to position itself as a regional ‘green paradise’ by 2030, with Da Lat being its cultural and economic hub.
“Da Lat’s role is not only provincial but also national and regional,” said Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, Party chief of Lam Dong.
“Da Lat is a key attraction for Southeast Asia and Asia.
“Lam Dong must recognize that value to guide its development in the right direction.”
