Vietnam's Da Nang sets up holding facility for stray dogs, cats
Authorities in An Khe Ward, Da Nang City, central Vietnam have launched a campaign to inspect and handle stray dogs and cats, with animals caught roaming freely to be taken to a municipal holding facility.

On Wednesday, the An Khe Ward People's Committee directed local authorities to inspect and handle stray dogs and cats across the ward.
On the first day, the inspection teams checked roads, alleys, residential areas, and public places, while reminding pet owners not to let their dogs and cats roam freely.
Owners were also instructed to register and declare their pets with their residential groups or the ward authorities, ensure their pets receive full rabies vaccinations, and keep them leashed or confined within their homes.
When taking dogs into public places, owners must use muzzles and keep them on a leash, while ensuring environmental hygiene and preventing their pets from affecting the community.

Nguyen Huu Minh Son, director of the An Khe Public Service Supply Center, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper that captured stray dogs and cats will be transferred to the city's holding facility for stray dogs and cats at kilometer 13 of the Nam Hai Van bypass in Hai Van Ward, Da Nang.

According to Son, the ward's urban order team is primarily responsible for handling stray dogs and cats.
In addition to its urban management duties, the team will regularly inspect and deal with stray animals.
The team will also respond to reports from residents by verifying and handling cases of stray dogs and cats.
"The city has now established a holding facility for stray dogs and cats, so after public education and reminders, violations will be dealt with strictly. Stray dogs and cats will be taken to the designated holding facility in accordance with regulations," Son said.
Da Nang sets 48-hour deadline for owners to reclaim captured pets
The Da Nang People's Committee has issued a decision on the operation of the municipal holding facility for stray dogs and cats.
The facility is located at kilometer 13 of the Nam Hai Van bypass in Hai Van Ward.
It operates during office hours on working days, from 7:30 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Under the plan, depending on local conditions, commune-level and ward-level authorities may establish teams to capture stray dogs and cats within their respective areas or across multiple localities.
Authorities are also required to publicize the location where captured dogs and cats are held, the holding period, and the handling plan for cases in which owners fail to reclaim their pets within 48 hours after being notified.
Administrative penalties will be imposed on violations of regulations on dog and cat management and rabies prevention.
For captured dogs and cats that are not reclaimed after the 48-hour period, the holding facility will establish a council to determine how the animals are to be handled.
