Speaking at a national forum in Hanoi, Dung said the sector has become a key driver of economic growth as Vietnam pursues new growth engines based on science, technology, and digital transformation.
He said total industry revenue was estimated at $198 billion in 2025, up nearly 26 percent from 2024, while digital technology exports were 1.7 times higher than in 2020.
Vietnam's technology firms have also played a central role in developing the country's digital economy and digital society, Dung said, noting that 5G networks now cover about 90 percent of the population and Vietnam's mobile Internet speeds ranked among the world's top 20 in 2025.

E-commerce revenue was estimated at $36 billion this year, triple the level in 2020, while the value of cashless payments was estimated at 26 times gross domestic product, with more than 20 billion transactions annually, according to figures cited at the forum.
Dung said technology companies were also driving digital transformation across sectors including energy, transport, healthcare, education, and environmental management.
Vietnam had about 80,000 technology enterprises in 2025, up 1.4 times from 2020, employing more than 1.9 million workers, he said, adding that more than 2,100 firms now export digital products and services to markets including the United States, Europe, and Japan.
Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung told the forum the government would push to build large, strategic technology companies with strong research and development capabilities that could compete internationally and anchor Vietnam's core digital platforms.
