The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City launched the campaign on Saturday in Phu Bai Ward, implementing a directive from the Hue Party Committee's Standing Board on promoting civilized funeral practices.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness of the city's cremation cost support policy through 2030 and related regulations, the committee said.

Authorities are encouraging families to hold dignified and economical funerals while reducing lengthy, ostentatious and wasteful practices that could affect the environment and community life.

Nguyen Chi Tai, chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City, said adopting civilized funeral practices does not mean abandoning traditions or reducing respect for the deceased.

Instead, the approach is meant to preserve positive cultural values while gradually removing customs that are no longer appropriate for modern life, he said.

Tai called on Fatherland Front organizations at all levels, community leaders, elders, clan leaders, and religious figures to help encourage residents to follow the guidelines.

Families are also being encouraged to consider cremation under the city's support policy and choose an appropriate form of burial or cremation.

The campaign will be incorporated into local community rules and existing movements promoting civilized urban areas, environmental protection, cultured families, and residential communities.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City will coordinate with local authorities and relevant agencies to monitor implementation and address difficulties at the grassroots level, it said.
