Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man re-elected for new term

The vote gave Man, a member of the Politburo and chairman of the 15th National Assembly, a second term as head of the country’s top legislative body for the 2026–31 period.

Following the vote, he was sworn in before the assembly, pledging loyalty to the constitution and the people and vowing to fulfill the duties entrusted by the Communist Party of Vietnam, the state, and voters.

In remarks after taking office, Chairman Man said the new legislature would build on the achievements of previous terms, improve the quality of lawmaking and oversight, and enhance decision-making on key national issues.

He also pledged to promote innovation, science and technology, and digital transformation in parliamentary operations, while strengthening supervision of law enforcement and advancing legislative reforms to support rapid and sustainable development.

Man called for closer coordination among state bodies and lawmakers, and expressed hope for continued support from voters, domestic institutions, and international partners to help the National Assembly carry out its mandate.

Born in 1962 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, Man holds a doctorate in economics and has held senior positions including chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and standing vice-chairman of the National Assembly before assuming the top legislative post in 2024.
