Police in Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam have launched an intensified campaign to conduct drug testing in the community, including among foreign nationals.

The campaign is part of activities marking the action month for drug prevention and control and the national day against drugs on June 26.

Lieutenant Colonel Dao Xuan Truong, chief of Nha Trang Ward Police, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Sunday that the force is strengthening drug screening efforts across the community.

According to Truong, police will carry out comprehensive drug testing while also promoting awareness and prevention measures at accommodation facilities and hotels throughout the ward.

Authorities will also conduct drug tests on foreigners staying in the area.

In addition, Nha Trang Ward Police have called on residents and tourists to remain vigilant and report drug-related violations to help maintain a safe and healthy community.

Lieutenant Colonel Truong Minh Hao, chief of Bac Nha Trang Ward Police, said his ward, which is home to a large number of foreign visitors, is also conducting drug screening among foreigners.

Cases involving violations will be handled in accordance with the law.

To strengthen anti-drug efforts, Khanh Hoa Police urged local residents to immediately report suspected drug-related crimes to the provincial drug crime investigation division at 0694401285 or through the hotline of the Ministry of Public Security’s Drug Crime Investigation Department.

Authorities said all reports would be kept strictly confidential.

Police warn of drugs disguised as food, beverages

Khanh Hoa Police have also issued a warning about the emergence of new types of drugs that are being disguised in increasingly sophisticated ways to attract users, particularly students and young people.

According to police, drug traffickers have recently concealed illegal substances in products that appear familiar and harmless, including milk tea, herbal tea, confectionery, food products, beverages, and electronic cigarettes.

Such disguises make the substances more difficult to identify, posing significant risks to public health, authorities said.

Police advised residents to stay informed about warnings issued by authorities regarding new drugs and the methods used by drug traffickers in order to better protect themselves and their families.
