Vietnam's Phu Quoc expects tens of thousands of visitors for National Day holiday

Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper observed that in the days leading up to the September 2 holiday, tourists from Vietnam and abroad continued to flock to Phu Quoc for leisure and vacations with friends and family, despite rainy weather.

Phu Quoc lines up festive activities for National Day

At Grand World Phu Quoc, a large tourism and entertainment complex on the island, visitors can enjoy performances and cultural activities showcasing Vietnamese traditions, including calligraphy, Dong Ho folk printmaking, Thanh Tien paper-flower making and water puppetry. 

Many also stop for photos against displays featuring the colors of the national flag.

In the southern town of An Thoi, tourists can take a cable car across the sea to Hon Thom, where they can swim, visit a water park and watch a fireworks show at Kiss Bridge.

Tang Sze Man, a tourist from China, said it was her first trip to Phu Quoc.

She said she enjoyed the island's food and relaxed atmosphere and made memorable experiences with her friends.

"Coming just before the September 2 holiday, I found the decorations beautiful and eye-catching, with plenty of places to have fun. The attractions across the island are clean and well maintained. I really like Phu Quoc," Man said.

Tran Thi Phuong Thao, deputy general manager of operations at Sun World Hon Thom in Phu Quoc Special Administrative Zone, said the company had made thorough preparations for the holiday, including operational plans and resources to best serve tourists.

About 6,000 visitors are currently coming to Hon Thom for sightseeing and entertainment, more than triple the figure recorded during the same period in 2025. 

International visitors, particularly from South Korea, China and India, are also arriving in large numbers.

"Phu Quoc has recently expanded air connections with Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Russia and Malaysia. Sun Phu Quoc Airways will continue expanding its flight network to bring more international visitors to Phu Quoc in the coming period," Thao said.

Phu Quoc Airport prepares for holiday surge

Phu Quoc International Airport expects to handle about 570 flights during the National Day holiday, up more than 66 percent from the same period in 2025, with 84,801 passengers, an increase of more than 81 percent.

At the peak from September 1 to 2, the airport expects nearly 150 flights and more than 22,000 passengers per day.

The airport has proactively increased staffing to assist passengers with check-in, security screening, immigration procedures, baggage claim and pick-up and drop-off areas.

The airport is working with relevant agencies to update flight schedules, manage passenger flows and promptly address any issues, aiming to prevent congestion during peak hours.

Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, chairman of the An Giang Tourism Association, said tourism businesses on Phu Quoc need to shift from simply selling tours to designing products tailored to individual markets to attract more international visitors. 

This includes training staff with strong foreign-language skills and gaining a deeper understanding of the cultures of different countries.

Phu Quoc should improve the quality and distinctiveness of its tourism offerings while developing cultural tourism, resorts, MICE, golf, wellness and green tourism, as well as expanding international air connections to bring more visitors to the island.
