Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong joined world leaders on Wednesday at a military parade in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of the global victory over fascism.

The event, held at Tiananmen Square, was part of President Cuong’s three-day official visit to China from September 2 to 4 at the invitation of Chinese President and Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping.

The anniversary brought together heads of state, government officials, and high-ranking delegations from across the world, including President Cuong and his entourage.

Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh underscored the significance of President Cuong’s attendance, calling it a powerful statement of Vietnam’s commitment to global peace, cooperation, and development.

He said the president’s participation reaffirms Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateral engagement.

The victory over fascism is regarded as a pivotal moment in world history, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

It laid the groundwork for the founding of the United Nations and helped establish fundamental principles of international relations, such as respect for equal rights, the right to self-determination, peaceful dispute resolution, the rejection of force, and adherence to international law.

In his address at the military parade, Chinese President Xi expressed gratitude to war veterans and to international allies who supported the fight for peace and freedom.

He underscored the enduring significance of global solidarity in the struggle against fascism.

In addition to attending the military parade, President Cuong is scheduled to meet with senior Chinese leaders during his visit to further promote bilateral cooperation.

This trip marks his first official visit to China as Vietnam’s head of state.

It takes place during the Vietnam–China Year of People-to-People Exchange and coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Vietnam and China established diplomatic relations on January 19, 1950.

In 2008, they elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
