Vietnam’s representative Lai Huong Thao won the “Miss Supranational Asia” title at this year’s Miss Supranational which concluded last week in Warsaw.

Katsiaryna Buraya from Belarus was crowned the highest prize, Miss Supranational 2012, while the first and second runner-up titles went to Nanthawan Wannachutha from Thailand and Michaela Dihlova from the Czech Republic respectively.

Though Thao earlier won the Miss Hospitality title as well as entered Top 16 at the national costume round and Top 12 at the talent round of the pageant in Poland, the young woman from the northern province of Quang Ninh didn’t come to the Top 20 at the final night.

In the national costume round, Thao, 21, who was crowned at the Miss Vietnam Sports 2012 beauty pageant, wore an ao dai designed by Vo Viet Chung and an evening gown by designer Hoang Hai while in the talent round, the 1.67-meter-tall beauty gave a traditional dance while wearing ao dai.

First launched in Poland by the World Beauty Association in 2009, Miss Supranational has become one of the world’s biggest beauty contests.
In 2011, the contest attracted 70 contestants from around the world. Vietnamese Daniela Nguyen Thu May finished third at that year’s finale held in Plock, Poland.

This year’s Miss Supranational pageant gathered contestants from 60 countries and territories.
