Dang Huu Chien, director at Gia Lai Children’s Hospital, said the hospital received three young patients on Sunday who had been stung by dozens of wasps while playing near a nest in An Phu Ward.
The most severe case, five-year-old Ksor T., died from anaphylactic shock despite intensive treatment.
Another child, four-year-old A.T. from central Quang Ngai Province, remains in critical condition and is undergoing continuous blood filtration.
An 11-year-old boy, Tran Minh Q., sustained lighter injuries and is now stable.
Chien said the victims were part of a group of children who disturbed a wasp nest, triggering the attack.
He added that the surviving patients are under close monitoring, with additional plasma filtration planned if A.T.’s condition does not improve.
In a separate case in Ca Mau Province, 34-year-old D.T.Q. died on Saturday after shielding her three-year-old son from a swarm of wasps while returning home from bringing food to her husband.
The boy, T.V.P., suffered more than 50 stings and remains in intensive care at Ca Mau Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital with impaired liver and kidney function.
The victim’s family is poor and has received emergency support and condolences from local authorities in Ca Mau’s Khanh Lam Commune, a local official said.
