Wet-leased aircraft arrive in Vietnam ahead of Tet holiday

Low-cost air carrier Vietjet received its fourth wet-leased aircraft on Monday evening, bringing its fleet of aircraft to 107 ahead of Tet

Several Vietnamese airlines have wet-leased aircraft to prepare for soaring travel demands during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, in February.

Low-cost air carrier Vietjet received its fourth wet-leased aircraft on Monday evening, bringing its fleet of airplanes to 107 ahead of Tet.

The same day, Bamboo Airways received a wet-leased aircraft at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, which it will use to help appease travel demands during the holiday.

In addition to leasing additional aircraft, many local airlines are increasing their nighttime flights in order to serve more local and international travelers.

A 'wet lease' is a short-term leasing arrangement whereby one airline provides an aircraft, a complete crew, maintenance, and insurance for another.

Conversely, a 'dry lease' involves only the leasing of the aircraft itself, with no additional crew or services.

As demand and ticket sales ahead of the Tet holiday continue to climb, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has asked local carriers to continue adding flights to assure that prices are stable and the demand is met.

Statistics from the aviation authority indicated that as of January 4, over 90 percent of flight tickets on several routes departing from Ho Chi Minh City had been booked, with certain services experiencing complete sell-outs.
